Achieve a Life you Love-Positivity
One of the writers that I enjoy because he always challenges me is Eckhart Tolle. One of my favourite quotes from him is “The mind is a superb instrument if used rightly. Used wrongly, however, it becomes very destructive.” –
Another favourite author, Wallace Wattles, wrote a book early in the 20th century. Wallace taught his readers about their thoughts. He said that we are what we think. What we think , we attract. He stated that because everything in this world is made up of energy; like energy creates like energy. This means that what you express in the form of our thoughts and emotions will be eventually expressed in reality. Over the last 10 years this concept has been called the “law of attraction”.
Not only do negative thoughts create negative energy, but they will also keep you from moving forward. They also have a domino-like effect, negative thoughts create more negative thoughts (kind of like our fat cells create more and more fat cells hormonally, but that is another interesting subject that I will share at a later date.). Stopping our negative thinking is not easy but there are many tools that can help. Once you create the shift from negative thoughts to positive, you will create a much happier life for yourself, and we all want to be happy.
A friend and very wise man once taught me to keep a notebook with me and every time I had a negative thought, I should write it down and strike it out with an X. Replace that negative thought with a positive thought, he said, and write down that positive thought. I only had to do this exercise a few times to see how many negative thoughts I had.
Here are some other ways to shift negative thoughts into positive ones:
.
1. Smile. Even if you aren’t feeling it. You will immediately feel better
2. Give to others-also called “pay it forward”. Take the attention off how you are feeling and do something kind for someone else.
3. Gratitude. Being purposely grateful for our lives really helps us to focus on positivity. If you take a couple of minutes every morning and evening to list 10 things that you are grateful for you will find that negativity flees from your mind. To take this even further, any time you feel you are being engulfed by your negative thoughts, list five things for which you are grateful-watch what happens.
5. Surround yourself with positive, amazing people. Positivity brings about positivity. This will be my subject for Step 6 to “Achieving a life you love”. Watch for it in the next newsletter!
Every day that we allow our thoughts and words spoken to others, to be filled with positivity, we will feel better, achieve more and create more positive opportunities for others around us..
