Spring Renewal Smoothie
I have been experimenting with green smoothie recipes to try to come up with the best green smoothie to boost my immune system and detox the body this spring. After many trial and errors, here’s the winning combination of ingredients that I came up with to make this the best green smoothie you will ever taste.
Keys to making the best green smoothie
One of the keys to making green smoothie that cleanses, detoxes & boosts your immune system, while tasting delicious, is the ratio of green vegetables to sweeter fruit. If you keep an 80/20 ratio of green to sweeter ingredients you will have a perfect mix.
Best of all, this recipe does not require an expensive Vita mix to make (and trust me I would love to own a Vita mix). An ordinary blender works just great for this recipe.
This recipe makes 16 ounces, perfect for a breakfast or snack for 2. You can also drink the whole Green Smoothie yourself, just make sure you sip it slowly as it is real food and lots of fiber.

- 1 ¼ cups water
- 2 cups chopped fresh spinach
- 1 cup chopped romaine lettuce
- ½ cup chopped celery
- ½ cup chopped cucumber
- ½ Anjou pear, chopped (use a Granny Smith apple for less sweet flavour)
- ½ frozen banana (can use a whole banana for a sweeter taste)
- Juice of ½ a lemon or lime, squeezed
- Small bunch of chopped cilantro or parsley (optional)
- 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds (optional for extra protein)
For an ordinary blender:
Start with the water and spinach and turn the blender on to chop until it liquefies. Slowly add each ingredient, and 1 at a time, turn the blender on chop until each liquefies.
For a Vita mix:
You can add all ingredients at the same time and the powerful motor will chop everything into a beautifully smooth drink.
Pour into 2 glasses and enjoy!
