Last night, Dr. David Perlmutter, author of the book Grain Brain, was featured on Detroit’s Chanel 9. Dr. Perlmutter some of his newest research on brain health, particularly the correlation between diet and dementia, Alzheimer’s disease, neurological issues that cause involuntary movement like Parkinson’s Disease, and even ADHD.
De-rusting the body
He said something that I having been teaching for a long time to my clients: The same diet and exercise program that creates and preserves brain health is good for preserving and “de-rusting” your entire body-your heart, your skin, weight loss, experiencing peri- and post-menopause “issues”, youth and vitality.

Yes, my friends, sugar, not fat is one of the main causes of all diseases, including cardiovascular diseases, every kind of cancer, type 2 diabetes and so many other health issues, including conditions that affect your brain’s health.
As you probably know by now, I’m passionate about prevention of degenerative disease. A business mentor said to me once that people aren’t interested in prevention-they want instant results. However, I remain passionate, just the same.
One of Dr. Perlmutter’s comments made me laugh. He said that if you take your pet, who is ill to the veterinarian, they will ask what you have been feeding your pet.( This happened to me 3 weeks ago when I took my beloved cat, Chi Chi in for an exam.)
He and I have a lot of respect for physicians but their training is not majoring (or even minoring) in nutrition. Has your doctor ever asked you what you have been feeding yourself with when you go in with a malady? But how we feed and nutriate our cells is now known to be the cause of 85% of all degenerative disease.

A recent article in the British Medical Journal has just shut down an old myth: Saturated fat is NOT bad for the heart. Science has now discovered that fat is not the culprit when it comes to cardiovascular disease, weight gain, brain health, and so many other issues.
It turns out that sugar(in all it’s many forms)is the real culprit for making you fat.
This is because sugar causes inflammation throughout the body, it increases your risk of almost every degenerative disease. It literally causes your body to rust from the inside out.
In the last 20 years so many foods have been modified to be “low or no fat”. How food manufacturers do this is by increasing the sugar and salt content to keep the flavour.
Start reading ingredient labels. You’ll soon , discover how much sugar is added to just about every packaged or pre-made food we consume, especially low-fat foods. I think you’ll be surprised by how much sugar is also in many “healthy” foods we use on a daily basis.
Notice how quickly you get hungry after a meal with little or no fat. We need the fat to feel sated.
Our brains are primarily made of fat.
Without fat, we crave more sugary foods—until we learn to eat to balance our bodies properly. One of my medical partners, Dr. Ray Strand says that when we spike our blood sugar it is like being on a blood sugar roller coaster. Your body is subjected to the blood sugar highs and lows, and you literally crave the sugar to feel OK when you’re in one of the lows.
So let’s not kid ourselves anymore about what’s really making us fat and aging faster than we need to be.
Sugar is the leading enemy to your body. It causes inflammation which causes your body to gain weight (and hold on to fat like a sponge hold onto water), literally rust yourself from the inside out and prematurely age with degenerative conditions.
