I love autumn with the beautiful fall foliage& cooler weather. With fall also comes the return of indoor heating, and dryer skin, lips & hair. With the new season approaching we need a fresh approach to revamp our summer sun damaged skin & add the extra moisture that our skin will need. Here are some important ways you can repair & support your skin with a specialized fall skin care program.
I have found that each year I get older my skin & especially the delicate skin on my nose & around my lips get drier & drier! Help is on the way-check out these fall skin care tips:
A Fall Skin Care Regimen for your Face.
Continue your SPF!
Yes, continue to use your sunscreen. UV radiation is present in all four seasons which is responsible for aging skin and increases the risk of skin cancer. My esthetician recommends an SPF 50, every morning, 365 days per year.
Increase your moisturizer!
Consider changing from a lotion to a cream, or add a hydrating serum under your moisturizer. I am using a hydrating serum that actually helps your skins regrowth as well as deeply moisturizes.

Change your cleanser
If you use a clarifying cleanser in the summer, think about changing to a gentler nourishing cleanser, during the fall & winter months. You may want to switch to a gentler Toner to clarify your skin as part of your fall skin care routine.
Add a hydrating Eye Cream
The delicate thin skin around your eyes is often the first area to show fine lines and wrinkles. Eye creams finely milled to compliment this sensitive area. Some of my favourite eye creams even have a bit of lightener in them. I sometimes use an eye cream & a hydrating eye gel if I’m going to be inside a lot.
Use a Deep Lip Moisturizer
I find that my lips get so dry (especially overnight) that they actually burn. Our lips are even more delicate than the skin under our eyes. To combat this, I have discovered a few lip balms & repairing creams that I find helpful.

Exfoliate less often
In the summer, when our skin turns over quicker, it is perfect to exfoliate a few times a week. In the fall & winter, most people find that exfoliating just once a week is all that your skin needs to glow.
Consider a Humidifier as part of your Fall Skin Care
This year I am considering the purchase of a humidifier for our bedroom & turning it on when we need to turn on our furnace. I have read that a humidifier can really help with dry & dehydrated skin in the fall & winter.
A Skin Care Regimen for your Body

The skin on our body is quite different from the delicate skin our face so it requires a slightly different approach with fall skin care. I recommend the following regimen 2-3 times/ week for healthy moist body skin.
Take warm, not hot showers
As the temperature gets cooler, you might be tempted to take hotter showers but this dries out your body skin even more.
Use a moisturizing shower gel or Specialized Skin Care Soap
Instead of grocery store bought soap, that is generally drying, choose a paraben free shower gel or specialized skin care bar. For shower gel about 3-4 pumps on a shower poof & you will find the moisturizing suds go much farther than a wash cloth.
Love a Bath
There is nothing nicer for your skin ( & tired, sore muscles) than a soak in a warm Epson salts bath. You can even buy a large container of Epson salts for very little money & make your own special mix using dried rose petals, lavender or a mix of soothing herbs.

Exfoliate more, not Less
While I recommend exfoliating only once a week for your facial skin, it is important to exfoliate more on your body’s skin after summer. This will remove the dead skin cells & dry summer skin plus increase your circulation.
How to Exfoliate
A great way to exfoliate your body’s skin is by dry brushing with a natural body brush before you go into the shower or bath. You can also use a wet loofah in the bath or shower to make your skin wonderfully soft.
Lastly, there are some wonderful shower gels available that include exfoliation products in them. You can gently clean, moisturize & exfoliate your skin all in one step.
Follow up with a rich but light moisturizing Body Cream
Now that the dead skin cells have been removed from your body, your skin will absorb a moisturizing cream into the deeper layers of your skin.
Finally, always check the ingredients
Your skin is the largest organ of detoxification & whatever products you use should be proven both safe & effective. There is so much research that has shown how what we put onto our face & bodies skin affects our whole health. It just makes sense to do your research.
