As we usher in the New Year, it’s the perfect time to embark on a transformative journey—one that begins right in your closet. Most of you know me as a Personal Trainer & Weight Loss Specialist but I am also a certified stylist & have worked in the fashion & cosmetic field for many years. As a certified stylist I have a passion for curating wardrobes that reflect personal style (your branding) and confidence & I cannot stress enough the significance of a closet cleanse. It’s not just about tidying up; it’s about embracing a refreshed mindset and setting the tone for the year ahead.
A closet cleanse isn’t merely an exercise in organization; it’s a powerful ritual that allows you to reevaluate your style, declutter the unnecessary, and rediscover pieces that resonate with who you are today. Here’s why it’s the perfect activity to kickstart your New Year on the right sartorial note:
A Closet Cleanse will give You
Clarity and Renewed Perspective:
Clearing out your closet provides a moment of clarity. It’s a chance to evaluate what truly represents your current style, tastes, and aspirations. As we evolve, so does our fashion sense. Letting go of items that no longer align with who you are allows space for a fresh perspective.
Streamlined Wardrobe, Amplified Style:
A curated wardrobe makes dressing effortless. By decluttering, you’re left with pieces that you love and feel great in, making getting ready in the morning a breeze. It’s about quality over quantity—a wardrobe that’s streamlined yet versatile, offering endless styling possibilities.
Embracing Intentional Shopping:
A closet cleanse instills a sense of mindfulness when it comes to future purchases. You become more conscious of what you add to your wardrobe, opting for pieces that complement your existing collection and serve a purpose rather than impulse buys.
Emotional Release and Empowerment:
Letting go of clothing can be emotional, but it’s also incredibly empowering. It’s liberating to bid farewell to items that no longer serve you, creating space for new energies and opportunities.
Now, how do you go about a closet cleanse? Here are my suggestions:
When working with my clients I always start by helping them create a Personal Style Statement. Then we proceed with a seasonal closet cleanse:
Start with Sorting:
When I work with clients, I start by dividing your wardrobe into categories—love it & keep, send to the tailor or mend, donate/sell, and discard. I help you assess each item honestly, considering if it fits, if you’ve worn it in the past year, and if it aligns with your current style.
Be Ruthlessly Selective:
If an item doesn’t make you feel confident or doesn’t fit well, it’s time to bid adieu. Remember, keeping things just because they were expensive or sentimental doesn’t serve your style evolution.
Organize your keep pile thoughtfully, arranging items in a way that makes them easily visible and accessible. Consider organizing by color, season, or type of clothing for efficiency.
- Create a Wishlist:
Take note of any gaps or holes in your wardrobe and create a wish list for pieces that would complement your curated collection.
A closet cleanse is not just about the physical act of decluttering; it’s about embracing a mindset shift towards intentional living and styling. As you embark on this journey, remember that your wardrobe should reflect who you are today and support the person you aspire to be. Here’s to a New Year filled with sartorial confidence, intentional choices, and a closet that sparks joy every time you open its doors.
