Fall is such a great time to make warm & nourishing desserts. One of my favorite ways to add some nutrition to fall pies is to make a crumb topping instead of a pastry topping. This Delicious Crumb Topping recipe can be used on a variety of pies including Apple, Peach, or any mixture of berries.
You can also use this same crumb topping recipe to make into a fruit cobbler. I think my favorite fruit cobbler is a mix of blackberries & blueberries but peach & apple cobblers are a close second.
I am suggesting on using Gluten Free flour combined with Almond flour but if no one in your household is sensitive to gluten , go ahead & use a high quality grade of regular all purpose flour.
So, however you’d like to use this Perfect Crumb Topping recipe , here it is:
Delicious Crumb Topping
- 12 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup of dark brown sugar
- 2/3 cup almond flour
- 2/3 cup gluten free flour
Dice cold butter into a large bowl. Add the sugar, almond & gluten free flours. Using a pastry cutter, work the butter into the sugar under the mixture is full of course crumbs. Use as your crumble or pie recipe directs for baking times.
