Summer is officially here, and we’ve got the inside scoop on what it takes to Slim Down for Summer . . . Fast. Forget about gimmicks and fad diets, we know what it really takes to get the results you want. With a little hard work and dedication, you’ll be showing off the latest swim fashions in no time!
Eat right
One of the first steps in losing weight and getting toned is evaluating your diet. Are you eating an ideal ratio of carbs and beneficial fats? Are you getting enough protein? For an easy way to make sure you’re getting the nutrition you need and a jumpstart to losing weight, try my 5-day Jumpstart program. Drink more water
Do you know how much water you should be drinking each day? Take your body weight (in pounds) and divide it in half. That’s how much water (in ounces) you should be drinking each day. Drinking water before a meal can also help you eat less. Thirty minutes before each meal, drink 8 – 12 ounces of water. Also, stay away from sugary sodas and moderate your alcohol – both of which can max out your calories quick. Instead, swap them for a tall glass of ice water with a slice of cucumber and lemon for a refreshing, satisfying drink.
Pump up your workouts
You don’t have to spend hours at the gym to look good in a swimsuit. Simply increase the intensity of your workouts. Start by doing interval training – walk for 2 minutes and then run for 3 and continue that for half an hour. Little bursts of high aerobic activity can really help you burn more calories than you think. Be sure to get in half an hour of cardio five times a week. Mix it up with a bike, elliptical, ZUMBA (my favourite), or whatever it takes to keep you from getting bored.
* Pro Tip – find a workout buddy. Chances are you’re more likely to stick with the program if you workout with a friend!
Lift weights
Don’t forget the dumbbells. More and more women are starting to understand the importance of weight training. It is critical because it helps you build muscle and literally shapes your body. Plus, muscle burns more than fat – so get lifting!
