I have been studying different ways to help my clients achieve health, vitality & weight loss over the last 2 years. I have discovered a number of new personal development tools & of all of them Rebranding our Personal Style is definitely the most effective.
Style an amazing tool for reinventing ourselves as it changes how we see ourselves , how we feel about ourselves & how others perceive & respond to us. A Personal Style rebrand includes our clothing, hair style/color, makeup, accessories, how we carry ourselves (our posture) & communicate with others on a daily basis.
To explore your own style rebranding, think about how you want to see yourself and how that is different from how your current self image. Do you desire to be more feminine ( masculine), more powerful, sporty, fit, elegant, sophisticated or any other trait? Your style choices can bring out whatever traits you want to embody & connect you with your deepest desires.
Using Style to Transform Ourselves
Neuroscientists are currently researching an idea called enclothed cognition. Enclothed cognition is all about the influence that clothing has on our cognitive processes, our thinking & feeling states, how we behave & act on a daily basis. The research has concluded that what we wear affects our thoughts, emotions & our actions by triggering particular memories, associations & self expectations that we have we those outfits.
One research example that stands out in my mind was a study where a group of students were divided before they wrote an exam. The students all had similar I. Q.s . One group wore their ordinary clothes and the other group was asked to way doctors lab coats while they wrote the exam. The group that wore the lab coats all scored significantly higher on the exam. Fascinating, isn’t it?
Our Current Wardrobe
Thinking about this, the School of Self Image tells us that when we put on an outfit from our past, how do you think we are going to show up? If our past memories are happy our old clothing might bring about happy thoughts but if we have negative thoughts from our past, those same negative thoughts will come up for you. Let’s say your goals are to lose access weight & create amazing health but in our past we have told ourselves that this is too hard to reach and I’m a woman/man who struggles with weight loss. The energy from those clothes will literally stop us from thinking new thoughts about ourselves every time we wear them. Wearing the same things day after day, year after year just reinforces that this is who I am.
If who you see yourself as (your self-image) is getting you to the happy results you want then, by all means keep your style the same , If, however, you would like your future self to be different from who you see yourself as now, consider a closet clean out and style rebrand to bring out the “future you” who wants to be seen.
